Game Boards

We all love board games right? So for our main topic let's have a chat about a component that doesn't seem to get that much attention, the boards themselves. Are they important? which games have the best boards? Why?

For a side topic, I thought we would try something different. If it works I'd like to make it a regular feature. What is this feature? Doing a spotlight on a game each week. So we pick a game and have a few questions about the end of the chat just about that game. If you know the game you can share your views on it, if you don't know the game its your chance to ask questions and find out about it. Feels like a win win if people give it a go (maybe).

Hope you enjoy the board game chat :0)

Monday 14th November 2016 questions are:

Q1: I use the term "board games" to describe most tabletop games, some don't have boards (like card games), do you?
Q2: What is your favourite board game that doesn't actually have a board?
Q3: Which game has the best looking / best art on its board?
Q4: Which game has the best designed board? What does the design add to the game?
Q5: Do you prefer modular boards or fixed boards as a rule? Why?
Q6: What is the main function of a board in a game? What are the essential elements of a great board?
Q7: Are there any interesting things that designers have done with boards?
Q8: Does the size of the board matter? Are some too big / too small?
Q9: What tips would you give to someone designing a game board?
Q10: Side Topic: Spotlight on Terra Mystica.. Do you / would you like to own Terra Mystica?
Q11: What are the pros and cons of Terra Mystica for you?

Come and join in our chat

#BoardGameHour is simply an hour long twitter chat about board games (tabletop games). to join in all you have to do is add #BoardGameHour to your tweets so everyone can see what you are saying :0)

11pm PST - USA west coast
2pm EST - USA east coast
7pm GMT - UK
8pm CET - Germany

If Nurph is still down!

I generally use Nurph to host (providing its working) but every now and then it goes down and causes problems.

If this happens, I recommend using or or Tweet Deck or Hootsuite to follow the hashtag chat. Of course you can just use twitter but sometimes the amount of #boardgamehour tweets can be challenging to keep up with.

Hope you can make it!
